Id Requirement

You will need to show one acceptable photo identification card (photo ID) whenever you vote in person. This is Virginia law for all voters.

Voter Workplace Protection

No laws require companies to give workers time off to vote. But employees working and commuting for 11 hours of the 13 hours polls are open may vote by absentee ballot.

Early Voting

Vote Early in Virginia! Virginians can vote in-person before election day! If you'll be out of town on March 3 or simply find it more convenient, vote early!

Early voting in Virginia begins February 29 and ends on February 29.

You can request an absentee ballot in-person up until 2/29/2020

College Students

If you are a college student not living in your home state, you can vote for Bernie in either your home state or in the state in which you are attending school!

District Delegates (65) District level Alternates (6)

  • Make sure you are a registered Democrat
  • Start organizing your friends and supporters to vote for you.
  • Show up with your supporters to vote in the April 18 – April 20 2020 County and City Caucus in your county or city. All Democratic voters are eligible to vote for the delegates who will attend the congressional District Conventions and the State Convention.
  • Ask for and file forms: Democratic Party of Virginia, 919 East Main Street, Suite 2050, Richmond, VA 23219, Phone: 804-644-1966
  • File a Statement of Candidacy and Pledge of Support for Bernie with the Party Chair by April 17, 2020 for the May 2, 2020 Conventions; April 24, 2020 for the May 9, 2020 Conventions; May 1, 2020 for the May 16, Conventions
  • At the May 2, May 9 or May 16, 2020 Congressional District Conventions the Congressional district delegates select the District Level delegates.

At Large Delegates (21) At Large Alternate Delegates (2)

  • If you did not get elected as a District delegate you can try to become an At Large Delegate or an Alternate delegate.

  • At-Large and Alternate delegates are elected at the June 20, 2020 State Convention.

PLEO Delegates (13)

You have to be eligible to be a PLEO delegate. PLEOs are eligible according to the following priority: big city mayors and state-wide elected officials (to be given equal consideration); state legislative leaders, state legislators, and other state, county and local elected officials and party leaders. Help Bernie by encouraging qualified Bernie supporting people to file to become PLEO delegates.

Standing Committee (12) and Delegation Chair

12 Standing Committee members (4 each on the Credentials, Platform and Rules committees) and the Delegation Chair are elected by a quorum of Virginia’s National Convention Delegates on June 21, 2020. You don’t have to be a delegate or alternate to be elected.
